SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Brittney Caudle has been honored as the women's Southern Conference Runner of the Week for her performance during the week of September 2-8, the league office announced today.

The freshman art major from Middletown, Md., ran in her first career cross country race Saturday as Appalachian State hosted the Covered Bridge Open. Caudle finished with a time of 18:13. Her time is the third-fasted in a 5K for a freshman and the 17th best time ever at Appalachian State.

The Mountaineers competed against teams including Florida State, UNC-Chapel Hill and nationally-ranked Division II Queens University.

Other top performers included:

Andrea Seccafien, a sophomore from Samford, who finished second at the Memphis Twilight. Her time of 18:27 helped Samford claim the team title.

Mara Smith, a freshman from Western Carolina, came in second in her first collegiate race. She posted a time of 12:00 and helped the Lady Catamounts claim the team title at the WCU Invitational.
