No. 2 Samford 4, No. 3 Chattanooga 0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford women’s tennis team advanced to the title game of the 2014 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament with a 4-0 win over third-seeded Chattanooga Friday afternoon at the Champions Club.

Samford earned victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the early 1-0 lead.  Stephanie N’tcha and Jessica Northcutt topped Kelsey Coots and Claire Mulyadi at No. 3 by an 8-2 score.  Yasmeen Ebada and Carita Moolman teamed up for an 8-7 victory over Kayla Jones and Katie Polk at No. 2 doubles, which gave Samford the team point.

N’tcha moved Samford (20-2) ahead, 2-0, with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Kayla Jones at the No. 1 position.  Ebada kept the Bulldogs’ momentum rolling with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alexa Flynn, which gave Samford a 3-0 lead. 

Emily Mallory’s 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win Mulyadi at No. 5 sent Samford to Saturday’s title match.  The Bulldogs are in search of their first Southern Conference tournament title.

Chattanooga finishes the season 18-5.

No. 4 Elon 4, No. 1 Furman 3

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Elon scored the first win of the day at No. 3 doubles, as Bryn Khoury and Taylor Casey provided the Phoenix with an 8-4 win over Karlee Bryde and Amanda Murray. Furman would answer back with an 8-4 win from Alex Moreno-Kaste and Katherine Oudin over Jordan Johnston and Lazarova at No. 1.

Elon’s Frida Jansaker and Maria Camara Ruiz would give the Phoenix a 1-0 advantage, earning an 8-7 win at No.2 against Furman’s Blair Martin and Ansley Speaks.

Jansaker posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to push Elon’s lead to 2-0 before Martin put Furman on the board with a straight set win (6-1, 6-2) over Tolley Rice at No. 6. Khoury took a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 3 to put Elon one singles win away from victory.

Furman would battle back however, as Kelly Sullivan defeated Camara Ruiz 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 5 and Speaks topped Johnston 7-6, 1-6, 6-2 to tie the match at 3-3. The Paladins were unable to complete the comeback, as Lazarova scored the win at No. 4 to seal the win for Elon.

Elon will look to win its first SoCon women’s tennis championship Saturday at 2 p.m., when it take on No. 2 Samford.
