Samford's Royalty Named Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford outfielder Kelsey Royalty has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held May 10-16, the league office announced Wednesday.

Royalty went 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate with a double, a home run and four RBIs in five games last week at the Southern Conference Championship tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In addition to leading the fourth-seeded Bulldogs to Saturday's championship game, Royalty posted team-high in slugging percentage (.714) and runs scored (five) while achieving an on-base percentage of .500 for the week. Her most notable game of the week came in an elimination game on Friday in the Bulldogs' 3-1 win over top-seeded UNCG as she went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. For her performance, Royalty was named to the SoCon's All-Tournament Team.

In the classroom, Royalty boasts a 3.8 grade point average as Journalism/Mass Communication major.

The General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes that hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 and whose sport is currently in-season. Nominees must have also completed at least one full academic year at their respective institutions.
