Four SoCon players named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four Southern Conference men’s basketball student-athletes were honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as members of the 2016-17 NABC Honors Court, which recognizes academic excellence throughout the season.

Mercer junior Rashad Lewis, UNCG junior Jordy Kuiper, UNCG senior Justin Jordan and Western Carolina senior Ashley Williams were among those honored.

All four of them were members of the SoCon Honor Roll in 2016-17, with Kuiper and Jordan earning the Commissioner’s Medal with GPAs of 3.80 or higher for the academic year. Kuiper and Williams each earned Academic All-Southern Conference honors.

In order to be named to the NABC Honors Court, a student-athlete must be academically a junior or senior and a varsity player; hold a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year; have matriculated at least one year at their current institution; and be a member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution with a NABC member coach.
