HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Strong winds were a factor at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate at the Hattiesburg Country Club as the Mercer men’s golf team finished the first two rounds of play tied for ninth place at 23-over-par.
Freshman Nolan Miller is just five strokes out of first place on the individual leaderboard after pacing the Bears’ starting five with a 1-over-par (68-75) effort that included a hole-in-one on the par-3, 198-yard No. 11 in his collegiate debut.
Fellow freshman Lino Galdin, who is playing as an individual, is tied for third after shooting 1-under-par (71-70). He is only two shots off the leader heading into round three on Tuesday.
Mercer is tied for ninth place with Southeastern Louisiana at 23-over-par. Host Southern Miss (-4, 279) owns a one-stroke lead over UTSA (+2, 282) to lead all schools.
Three Bears, including Galdin as an individual, rank inside the top 25 through two rounds of play. Galdin and Miller were the most impressive of the bunch, while Stanton Schorr was solid with a 3-over-par (71-74) effort.
