This season, the two teams met on Oct. 2 in Greenville with the Paladins pulling out a 3-2 win. They met again in the season finale where the Cougars swept the Paladins in Charleston, S.C.
Defending tournament and regular season champion College of Charleston finished the season 27-5 overall with a 15-1 record in conference play. The Cougars are seeking their sixth conference title in seven years. College of Charleston will face Samford in a rematch of last year's semifinal match. Samford finished the season 14-16 overall and 8-8 in conference and has qualified for the SoCon tournament all three years it have been in the league. In the only meeting between the two schools this season, the Cougars swept the Bulldogs.
Elon claimed its first ever North Division title after posting an 11-5 conference record. The Phoenix finished the season with 20-13 overall mark, and are looking to become the first of the current North Division teams to claim the conference title since Chattanooga did it back in 1998.
In Friday's quarterfinal matchup, the Phoenix will face Davidson, who defeated Elon in four sets earlier in the season. The Wildcats finished fourth in the South Division with a 16-17 overall record, 7-9 in the SoCon.
