SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Raegan Thompson has been named the women’s basketball player of the week for December 20, the league office announced today.
Thompson led Furman in scoring in both of the team’s wins this past week. The junior guard scored 15 points in a 75-60 win over Elon on Saturday. She also had eight rebounds and connected on three shots from behind the arc against the Phoenix.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native tallied 18 points in Monday night’s 53-48 win over UNCG and recorded a career-high 12 rebounds. Thompson finished last night’s game 7-of-15 from the floor and went 4-for-8 from long range.
Thompson’s strong play this week helped Furman to a 4-0 start in league action. This is only the second time the program has started conference play at that mark, the first time coming in the 1998-99 season.
Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Courtney Freeman, College of Charleston’s Deidre Ramer, Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Ali Ford, UNCG’s Janae’ Stevenson, Samford’s Paige Anderson, Chattanooga’s Taylor Hall and Wofford’s Daniella Motley.
