BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women’s tennis team swept Jacksonville State for a 6-0 victory Wednesday at the Samford Tennis Complex.
Samford won the doubles point, earning victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. On the No. 1 court, Ellie Gerlach and Grace Jennings defeated Diana Monsalve and Genevie Ulanday, 7-5. At the No. 2 position, Annika Hepp and Elsa Pool earned a 6-2 victory over Claudia Marsala and Malin Buechner. The No. 3 doubles match was not played.
In singles, at the No. 1 position, Savannah Wood earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ulanday. At No. 2, Gerlach defeated Marsala, 6-3, 6-3. Pool defeated Monsalve, 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 3 singles court.
At No. 4 singles, Arianna Beltrame defeated Alba Conejero, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Hepp defeated Buechner, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The No. 6 singles match was also not played.
With the win, Samford improves to 5-2 on the young season. Jacksonville State falls to 3-4 with the loss.
Samford will return to action on Feb. 22, when the Bulldogs play at Georgia State. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (CT) in Atlanta, Ga.
