HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Sophomore Haylee Harford (+8) fired a final-round 71 Sunday to lead the sixth-ranked Furman women’s golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,160-yard Long Cove Club.
Harford, who hails from Leavittsburg, Ohio, birdied No. 3 and No. 13 on Sunday, posting an even-par round to tie for 21st. Junior Alice Chen (+9) and freshman Natalie Srinivasan (+9) tied for 27th. Chen carded a 73 with birdies on No. 8 and No. 10 on Sunday, while Srinivasan added a final-round 74.
Junior Reona Hirai (+10) paced the Paladins with four birdies on Sunday to finish 37th after carding a 73 in the final round, and senior Taylor Totland (+13) tied for 47th after posting a 78 in the final round.
Ninth-ranked Cheyenne Knight (-8) of Alabama shocked the field with a 6-under on Sunday to win individual medalist honors by seven strokes.
Fifth-ranked Alabama (+5) won the team title by two strokes over 18th-ranked Duke (+9), and No. 10 Arizona State (+13) finished third. No. 14 South Carolina (+24) placed fourth, followed by eighth-ranked Georgia (+28) in fifth place. Furman followed at +31.
The Paladins will compete at the Clemson Invitational on Lake Keowee, March 31-April 2.
