Freshman Lead Bucs at Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 15, 2017) -- Paced by strong showings from a group of youngsters, both of ETSU’s cross country teams finished in the top five of the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on Friday in Blacksburg, Va.
For the men, freshman Ben Varghese (Kingsport, Tenn.) – making his collegiate debut – finished 5th out of field of 147 runners.
Another freshman, Lindsay Stallworth (Knoxville, Tenn.) was the women’s top finisher, coming in 11th out of 116.
The men were 3rd in the team standings, and the women 5th. Twelve squads ran in the men’s 8K race, won by the host school, Virginia Tech. Fourteen teams competed in the women’s 6K, won by Florida State. Read More
Spartan Women Place 9th, Men 11th at Adidas XC Challenge
CARY, N.C. – Hitting the course at WakeMed Soccer Park, the UNCG women’s cross country team placed ninth, while the Spartan men garnered 11th, at the Adidas XC Challenge.
Taylor Delaney (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) was the high finisher for the Spartans, finishing the 5K race in 18:27.2. Freshmen Kassidy Dill (Milford, Maine/Orono) and Lefler McManus were next up, finishing the circuit in 19:38.0 and 19:38.7 for 69th and 70th, respectively. Read More
VMI Participates in Virginia Tech Alumni Invite
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Bethany King paced the VMI women's cross country team by finishing 31st overall at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite, contested Friday in Blacksburg, Va.
King's finish marked the third straight race that she had led the VMI women's team to start the season, as she crossed the line in 23:01 over the 6K course. Logan Luckett was once again the Keydets #2 runner, as she finished 44th in 23:34, and Anna Armfield was 55th in 24:03.
Jahanzib Shahbaz led the VMI cross country team for the second consecutive race, as the Keydets finished seventh overall at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite, contested Friday in Blacksburg, Va.
Shahbaz timed in at 26:06 to finish 44th overall on the 8K course, 21 seconds ahead of Justin Adams' 58th-place result (26:27). Kyle Sabourin was 62nd in 26:46 and Davone Hernandez placed 63rd with the same time. Micah Ellington rounded out the Keydets' top five with a 77th-place finish (27:25). Read More
