Western Carolina Women Finish Fifth, Men Take Seventh

BOONE, N.C. - The Western Carolina men's and women's cross country teams traveled to former Southern Conference rival Appalachian State Saturday morning to compete in the Mountains to Sea Duals. The Catamounts faced competition from Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Georgia State, Lees-McRae, Louisburg College, North Carolina, Troy and UNC Wilmington. The women finished fifth in the 10 team field while the men took seventh out of nine programs.

Junior Kaitlyn Lingard once again led the Catamounts as she posted a personal best time of 18:15.13 over the 5k course. The time ranks ninth in the WCU record book and earned her a 14th-place finish on Saturday. Junior Christina Nikolaou was next to cross the line for the Catamounts in 28th as she posted a time of 18:50.29. Wofford Competes at Winthrop

Rock Hill, S.C. - The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at the Winthrop/Adidas Cross Country Invitational. The women finished first overall with Hannah Steelman the individual winner, while the men were third overall.
 
The men's 8K competition began the morning and sophomore Jack Zemp was the top finisher for the Terriers with a time of 26:45.451 for 14th place. Cristian Widenhouse was 21st in 27:33.56, followed by Cisco Ferre at 27:52.54, Ethan Epstein a 28:03.26 and Dane Szalwinski at 28:34.30. Also running for the Terriers were William Stutts, Ben Boatwright, Ben Hensley, and Walker Gibbs.
 
The women's 5K race followed and freshman Hannah Steelman was first overall in 17:46.53. Her time was the second-fastest in school history, behind the mark she set in the season's first meet. Taryn Schoen was second overall in 19:17.51, while Mary Stewart Wilson was fourth at 19:27.86. Anya Bunao took sixth place at 19:42.26 and Shannon McAndrew was seventh in 19:53.44. Also competing for the Terriers were Jamie Barnett, Rebeka Fadgyas, Whitley Elsass, Sommer McKenzie, Madison Paraskeva, Alexandra Christopoulos, Anastasia Burroughs, Breck Peterson and Chandler Washburn. Mocs Teams Second at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's and women's cross country teams each finished runner-up to Mississippi State Saturday morning at the Falcon Classic in Montevallo, Ala.
 
"Both teams competed very well today," Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. "This was our freshmen's first attempt at 6K and 8K. It was an eye-opener for our young teams. "Both teams accelerated throughout the race and steadily gained places through the added distances; they got stronger on the hills later in the race while other teams faded."
 
Junior Emily Poole (Ringgold, Ga.) paced four Mocs in the Top 15 of the women's Division I race while the men placed four in the Top 10 led by junior John Payne (Portland, Tenn.). The women, with 57 points, finished behind Mississippi State (19) and ahead of Southern Conference foe Samford who had 73 points in the race for third. Alabama State was fourth with 100 points. Bulldogs Take Second and Fifth at Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Citadel's men's and women's cross country teams both had top-5 finishes after participating in the Winthrop Invitational on Saturday in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
 
Other participants included host Winthrop, Duke, USC Upstate, Wofford, Presbyterian and South Carolina State.
                       
The women's team took second place overall with 75 total points to beat Winthrop by one point. Freshman Amber Opp was the first Bulldog to cross the finish line and was sixth overall in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19 minutes, 25.75 seconds. Freshman Casey Miller finished 16th with a time of 20:12.29 and senior Grace Jenkins took 19th with a time of 20:22.09. Read More
