GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman cross country teams competed in the 45th annual Gene Mullin Cross Country Invitational Saturday morning in Greenville, S.C.

The Furman men, who rested their top runners in anticipation of the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational Presented by Under Armour, which will be held on Friday in Madison, Wis., placed second with 80 points.  Georgia scored 10 points for the win.

Senior Quintin McKinnish paced the Paladins on the 5K course, crossing the line in 16:01.72 to take fifth place.  Junior Patrick McNamara was 13th with a time of 16:16.33, and sophomores Madison Daniel and Thomas Moore finished back-to-back in 18th and 19th placed, respectively.  Daniel posted a time of 16:28.94, and Moore completed the course in 16:29.60.  Senior Hayden Cox completed the Paladin slate, placing 52nd with a time of 17:56.65.

The Paladin women, who also rested their top runners in order to prepare for Friday’s meet, finished third with 80 points.  Georgia won the meet with 29 points, followed by Flagler in second with 64 points.

Rookie Emily Lane led the Paladins with a time of 18:46.65 on the 5K course, taking third place.  Sophomore Anna Hayden, who crossed the line in 19:22.83, placed eighth, and freshman Anisa Burciaga recorded a time of 20:25.80 for 15th place.  Senior Shannon Smith finished 41st with a time of 23:00.45, and sophomore Reagan Chewning placed 54th at 24:53.54.

“We had some good performances today, and, of course, we always love hosting the high school portion of this meet,” said Furman head coach Robert Gary at the conclusion of the meet.  “We rested most of the travel varsity teams in anticipation for Wisconsin and High Pointe meets next weekend.”

Furman will compete at the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wis., and at the HPU Vert Invitational in High Point, N.C., on October 13.
