Wofford Falls 59-51 at College of Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Wofford women's basketball team fell 59-51 to College of Charleston on Monday night. Wofford led after three quarters but the Cougars held the Terriers to just six points in the fourth quarter to take the lead for good. With the loss, Wofford moves to 5-6 on the season.

The Terriers and Cougars struggled out of the gate as the team's only combined for 20 points in the first period of play. Wofford shot 4-15 (26%) from the field and Emily Ryan knocked down the lone three pointer in the quarter. The Terriers were led by Marissa Bayer with four points, two rebounds and one block in the quarter.

The Cougars began to find the hot hand in the second quarter as Charleston shot 6-14 (42%) from the field while knocking down two triples. The Terriers continued to struggle from the floor shooting 5-16 (31%) from the field and 0-2 from downtown. College of Charleston led by as many as seven in the period but a 6-1 run by the Terriers pulled Wofford within two, 25-23 at the end of one half.

Wofford came out of the half on fire as the Terriers were 8-13 (61%) from the field, 2-3 (66%) from three and 4-6 (66%) from the stripe. The Cougars kept themselves in the game with solid shooting of their own, going 7-17 (41%) from the field and 4-4 from the stripe. Wofford had six assists on eight made baskets in the third quarter as the Terriers led 45-43 after three.

The Terriers could not continue the hot shooting from the third quarter as Wofford went 2-21 (9%) from the field in the fourth quarter. The Cougars continued the solid shooting going 6-13 (46%) from the field and 1-2 (50%) from downtown. Wofford scored the first four points of the quarter but Charleston ended the game on a 7-2 run to down the Terriers.

Despite the loss, Wofford had 14 assists on 19 made baskets while totaling 17 offensive rebounds as a squad. Marissa Bayer led the Terriers with 17 points and 11 rebounds and now has two double-doubles in her last three games. 

Wofford will return to the court on Wednesday when the Terriers travel to Conway to face off against Costal Carolina.
