Furman's football game against Colgate canceled

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman University has announced the cancellation of a pair of weekend Paladin home athletic events due to Hurricane Florence.

Cancelled home events include Saturday’s football game versus Colgate and Saturday’s Furman Cross Country Classic.

The Furman-Colgate football game will not be made up, according to Furman director of athletics Mike Buddie, who said, “We will be looking at options to find an opponent for our open week (Oct. 6).”

Furman’s football team will return to action on Sept. 22 when it opens Southern Conference play at ETSU.

Western Carolina at Gardner-Webb moved to Friday night

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Officials at Gardner-Webb and Western Carolina have agreed to move Saturday’s scheduled football game between the Catamounts (1-0) and Runnin’ Bulldogs (1-1) to Friday, Sept. 14, with a 6 p.m. kickoff at Ernest W. Spangler Stadium due to impending threat associated with Hurricane Florence.

“After consulting with on-campus officials and speaking with [athletics director] Randy Eaton at Western Carolina, we are in agreement that Friday gives our teams the best opportunity to play the game without adverse effects from the weather,” said Gardner-Webb Vice President for Athletics Chuck Burch, “We will continue to monitor conditions.”

Fans are reminded to be cautious and stay safe as it relates to potentially traveling to Boiling Springs, North Carolina, for the football game on Friday evening. Please check back to and WCU’s social media outlets (@Catamounts, @WCU_FB on Twitter) for any additional updates.
