ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Central Michigan lacrosse team opened the 2019 season on Friday with a 20-4 nonconference loss to Michigan at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
The Chiippewas return to action on Sunday, Feb. 24, with a nonleague game at Butler in Indianapolis.
Natalie Karlen gave the Chippewas a 1-0 lead at the 4:19 mark of the first half. Jessica Schuchardt assisted.
Michigan scored 11 consecutive goals to size control. Karlen scored again at the 29:33 mark to make it 11-2 at halftime, and then Emma Hamilton scored less than two minutes into the second half to pull the Chippewas within 11-3.
Schuchardt scored the Chippewas' fourth and final goal. Hamilton led the Chippewas with four shots.
Dominique made 13 saves in 44-plus minutes in goal for CMU. Hope Murray went the final 15:57, notching four saves.
"Overall we were comfortable with our preparation, but unable to execute," CMU coach Sara Tisdale said. "There's a lot ot earn and we're looking forward to the opportunity to get back to work."
