SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team earned a sweep over the USC Upstate Spartans on Friday night, as the Terriers dominated from beginning to ending, earning their third straight doubles point and taking all six singles matches in straight sets. The win is the second consecutive against the Spartans, with Wofford moving their overall record to 7-11 while USC Upstate drops to 1-15.
"I'd have a hard time picking an MVP in tonight's match," said Rod Ray of the Terriers' performance. "It didn't matter if we were ahead or behind. We played with a conviction to win from top to bottom."
Javi Casasolas and Bryce Keim picked up their third straight win in No. 2 doubles, kicking things off with a 6-4 victory over Francisco Neto and Frederick Sydow.
Lucas Cerbelli and Diego Losada then followed example with their third consecutive win together as well on the No. 3 court, dropping Tom Russwurm and Samuel Schiano, 6-4, to secure the early lead.
The Terriers carried the solid play over into singles, as sophomore Omar Williams rang in the first singles win, 6-1, 6-2, over Neto for his seventh win in the No. 2 spot.
Junior Julian Chousa followed in No. 1 singles, dropping Ankush Arora, 6-1, 6-3, to push a 3-0 Wofford lead and earn his fifth victory of the year.
Edu Villar would clinch the match with the next win in the No. 3 spot, downing Luka Eble, 6-1, 6-2, for his seventh win, as Diego Losada picked up his fourth win in the No. 6 slot, 6-1, 6-2, over Schiano.
Javi Casasolas earned his fifth win of the year in No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-4, over Russwurm, while Cerbelli would cap the night off with a 6-4, 7-6 (5-0) win over Frederick Sydow for sixth of the season in the No. 4 spot and the 7-0 sweep at the end of the match.
Next, the Terriers prepare for a pivotal SoCon matchup with The Citadel on Tuesday, April 9th in Charleston, S.C. First serve is scheduled for a noon start.
