GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro softball (28-20) lost 6-3 to Winthrop (24-22) Wednesday evening at UNCG Softball Stadium. The Eagles scored four runs with two outs in the seventh inning for the comeback victory.

Winthrop took the lead on a two-run infield single with the runner on second base scoring on the throw to first base that nearly ended the game. The Eagles then hit consecutive doubles to add two insurance runs.

All three runs for UNCG came in the fourth inning. The bases were loaded with no outs after walks by Stephanie Bryden and Makenna Matthijs and a single through the right side by Kamryn Graves. A fielding error and then a throwing error over to first base by the pitcher resulted in Bryden and Graves both scoring. The bases were then loaded again with two outs when Delaney Cumbie was hit by a pitch, and Marisa Sholtes drew a walk to allow Matthijs to jog home for the last run.

Winthrop had the game’s first two runs with an RBI-double with two outs in the first inning and a run off an error the next inning.

UNCG closes out the regular season with a home weekend series against ETSU beginning with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m.

Kylie Bouplon threw her 10th complete game, allowing five earned runs, 10 hits and one walk with a strikeout.
