SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina catcher and designated hitter Stephen Notaro has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Appalachian State relief pitcher Taylor Miller has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week for all games from April 18-24.

Notaro led the Catamounts with a .750 batting average on the week (9-for-12) with a team-best nine base hits including two doubles and his second home run of the season. The senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., drove in 10 runs in the three games, amassing a 1.167 slugging percentage with a .706 on-base percentage as WCU took two against Wofford. Notaro had three, multi-hit games including a career-best 5-for-5 effort on Sunday to go along with six RBIs and four runs scored.

Miller, ASU's closer, was untouchable over three appearances on the week, going 1-0 with two saves in 5.2 perfect innings of relief. The senior from Raleigh, N.C., retired all 17 batters he faced on the week and struck out 12. After fanning three of the four batters he faced to earn the save in Tuesday's 8-6 win over Presbyterian, Miller turned in perhaps the best outing of his career in Thursday's series opener at Davidson, working the final 3.1 innings of ASU's 3-1, 12-inning win. He struck out a career-high eight of the 10 batters he faced on Thursday, including the final six to earn the win. The right-hander bounced back to work a perfect inning to close out a 4-3 Mountaineer victory in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.

Other hitters receiving consideration were College of Charleston's Daniel Aldrich, Appalachian State's Hector Crespo, The Citadel's William Ladd, Davidson's Danny Weiss, Elon's Neal Pritchard, Georgia Southern's Shawn Payne, UNCG's Bobby Martin, Samford's Saxon Butler and Wofford's Clark Wise.
