SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Kate Van Dyke, a senior setter for Georgia Southern's volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 26, the league office announced today.
The Shawnee, Kan. native holds a 3.75 GPA in Psychology and has helped the Eagles to a 2-0 start in league play for the third time in the five-year tenure of head coach Chad Callihan.
Van Dyke averaged 11.86 assists per set in a pair of SoCon wins for the Eagles. She also registered 16 digs, four kills and three blocks last week. Van Dyke amassed 46 assists and 10 digs in a 3-1 win over Wofford, then followed that with a 37-assist, six-dig performance in a 3-0 win over Furman. Van Dyke has also been named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Other nominees included Appalachian State volleyball's Lauren Gray, The Citadel's Mariana Garcia, UNCG volleyball's Kelsey Sidney, and Western Carolina women's soccer player Laura Greb.
