SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced its broadcast schedule for the upcoming men's and women's basketball season today (October 10). Southern Conference men's basketball programs will make a total of 72 exposures across 14 different networks this season and will have 39 games involving league teams produced by the ESPN family of networks.
ESPN3 will broadcast between 28 and 30 exclusive games involving Southern Conference men's basketball teams in 2012-13. Nineteen of those ESPN3 games will be produced by the conference office. In addition, the conference will produce eight women's basketball games, which will air exclusively on ESPN3. The SoCon will air five men's and women's basketball doubleheaders during the season. Southern Conference men's and women's teams will have a combined minimum of 90 institutional exposures in 2012-13.
In addition to appearing on the ESPN family of networks, Southern Conference men's basketball programs will make appearances on the Big Ten Network, Big 12 Network, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, Missouri Sports Network, Pac-12 Network, Jayhawk TV, Fox Sports Ohio, Fox Sports South, the NBC Sports Network and WMYA-TV (Asheville, N.C.).
The Southern Conference also revealed its composite schedule for 2012-13. Each men's team will play an 18-game league slate, beginning on Wednesday, November 28, when Georgia Southern hosts Elon. Chattanooga hosts Wofford to kick off the 20-game round-robin format in women's competition the next day. The Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for March 8-11 in Asheville, N.C.
The first three days of the 2013 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament will be available on ESPN3. The opening round (March 8), quarterfinals (March 9) and semifinals (March 10) will all be shown live. The men's basketball championship game is set for Monday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2. The women's semifinals and championship game will be shown on ESPN3.
