SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Wilkerson Given has been named the Southern Conference men’s cross country runner of the week for his performance during the weekend of October 5-6, the league office announced Wednesday.
Given, a senior from Birmingham, Ala., won the Gene Mullin Furman Invitational and also led the Paladins to a first-place team finish. He finished the 5K race in 14:52.77, leading the entire way and winning by three seconds.
Furman’s Sinead Haughey has been honored as the Southern Conference Women’s Runner of the Week for her performance during the weekend of October 5-6, the league office announced.
The sophomore from Central, S.C. finished the Gene Mullins Invitational in 17:45.53, winning by just under 30 seconds. Haughey helped the Paladins to a first-place team finish on the three-loop 5K course which contains one sharp hill and one long climbing hill per loop.
Haughey is a communications major with a concentration in film studies and holds a 3.4 GPA.
The Citadel’s Kyle Keene was named honorable mention runner of the week for his performance during the weekend of October 5-6, the league office announced.
Keene, a senior from Greenville, S.C., finished seventh out of 190 runners at the Disney Invitational in Orlando, Fla. His time of 26:10 for the 8K course led his team to a third-place finish in a field of 23 teams.
