Montgomery was flawless in goal on the week, posting a pair of shutouts as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in SoCon play with a pair of road wins. The Georgetown, Texas, native made eight saves and posted a 0.00 goals against average in victories over The Citadel and College of Charleston.
Against The Citadel on Friday, Montgomery made five stops in Samford’s 2-0 win, good for her second shutout of the season.
In a rematch of last season’s SoCon Tournament title game, Montgomery made three saves in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 win over College of Charleston on Sunday. Her second straight shutout improved her record on the season to 7-1-2 this year.
The wins improved Samford’s unbeaten streak against league opponents to 22 consecutive games, dating back to the start of the 2011 season.
The weekly award is the first of Montgomery’s career. She is the second Samford student-athlete to earn the honor this season, as teammate Kaley Blanton was the league’s player of the week on Sept. 11.
Samford (9-5-2, 6-0-2 SoCon) will look to retain its grip on the top spot in the standings when it hosts second-place UNCG (9-6-1, 6-1-1 SoCon) on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern time in Birmingham, Ala.
