Dominguez Gonzalez had a monster game in his only contest of the week, notching a hat trick and adding an assist for a seven-point day in the Terriers’ 4-3, overtime win over No. 20 Elon on Oct. 9. He had a hand in all four Wofford goals, and his three on the day matched the school record.
The Aguascalientes, Mexico, native got the scoring started with his first goal of the season in the 27th minute. After a pair of unanswered goals from Elon, Dominguez Gonzalez tied things up at 2 with a goal in the 68th minute. He put the Terriers back on top with a goal in the 80th minute to complete the hat trick, but Elon forced extra time with an 86th-minute strike.
Dominguez Gonzalez came up with more heroics in overtime, assisting on the game-winner in the 95th minute as Wofford knocked off its first ranked team of the season.
The weekly award is the first of Dominguez Gonzalez’s career.
Wofford (8-5-0, 2-1-0 SoCon) is back in action Wednesday when it heads down to Columbia, S.C., to take on South Carolina (4-7-2, 1-4-1 Conference USA).
