SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Rachel Woodlee, a senior on the Wofford volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for October 17, the league office announced today.
The Greer, S.C. native holds a 4.0 GPA in business economics and Chinese and had one of her best weeks of the season last week. Woodlee finished the week with 20 kills and 24.5 points as the Terriers went 2-0 on the week with wins over Appalachian State and Western Carolina. It was the first time since 2001 Wofford had defeated the Mountaineers.
Against Appalachian State, Woodlee had six kills and two blocks. In the game against Western Carolina, she tallied 14 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. She also added five total blocks, one solo and four block assists. It was the first time since 2008 Wofford had won back-to-back Southern Conference matches.
Other nominees included Appalachian State women’s soccer player Taylor Dunlap, The Citadel women’s soccer’s Mariana Garcia, Davidson cross country runner Presley Parkes, UNCG cross country runner Paul Chelimo, and Western Carolina linebacker Rock Williams.
