Chattanooga in the lead at Bridgestone Golf Collegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chris Robb shot 6-under par 138 Saturday to lead the Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team to the 36-hole lead at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. Chattanooga shot rounds of 289 and 282 for a 5-under par total of 571.
Robb tied his career-low 18 with a 66 (-6) in round two. He is in second place, two shots off the pace set by Mississippi State's Axel Boasson. Boasson is at 8-under (136) after rounds of 69 and 67.
Benni Weilguni and Michael Monroe were solid for the Mocs. Weilguni opened with a 72 and closed at 1-under 143 with a 71 on his second 18.
Monroe was equal to the task. He followed a first-round 73 with a 71 of his own. He's tied for 13th at level par, one shot behind Weilguni at minus-1.
Steven Fox is also in the top 20 at 2-over par 146. He shot 72-74 to end up tied for 18th. Liam Johnston shot 152 for his 36 holes as his 73 in the first round gave the Mocs three 72s and two 73s on the opening cards.
UTC was in fourth after that first round 289 (+1). It was a solid all-around effort that was a bit disappointing, considering the crew was 8-under midway through the round.
It was a quick start to the second as Robb opened birdie-eagle-bogey-birdie. The Mocs followed suit and held strong for the 6-under 282.
Chattanooga (571) leads Mississippi State by one at 572. Iowa State is third, three shots back at 574, while Ole Miss is fourth at 584.
UNCG seventh at Bridgestone Golf Collegiate
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s golf team made a surge up the leaderboard after the first 15 holes of play, moving up six spots by the end of day one of the eighth annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate to sit in seventh place overall after 36 holes of golf Saturday afternoon at the Grandover Resort.
The Spartans posted a two-round score of 587 to sit just 11-over par with a 297 in round one and a 290 in round two, their lowest-round of the season so far this fall.
Chattanooga sits in the lead after the first two rounds with a 5-under par 571 (289-282), while Mississippi State sits in second with a 572 (286-286) and Iowa State is third at 574 (287-287). All 13 teams in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate will conclude play Sunday on the Grandover Resort East Course with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Sophomore Alex Ehlert led the Spartans’ charge up the leader board as he is tied for sixth place individually with a 2-under par 142 (73-69). Ehlert’s second-round score of 69 is the lowest of the season for the Spartans, matching his career-low score, which was set at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate last season.
Mississippi State’s Axel Bossom leads the Bridgestone Collegiate with an impressive 8-under par 136 as he shot a 69 and a 67 in the two rounds. Chattanooga’s Chris Robb is two strokes back at 6-under par 138 (72-66), while Blake Morris is third at 4-under par 140 (67-73).
UNCG sophomore Roy Dixon is tied for 21st after 36 holes as he posted a 3-over par 147. Dixon opened the tournament with a 78 in round one before being part of the Spartans’ recovery, shooting season-low 69 in round two. Dixon was one of two Spartans to post an eagle on the day as he scored a 3 on the par-5 18th hole in round one.
Freshman Luke Haithcock is the third Spartan finisher after posting a 6-over par 150 (77-73) to sit in a tie for 41st place. Haithcock also turned in an eagle on the par-5 18th hole in the first round of the afternoon. Freshman in Taylor Coalson carded a 152 (73-79), while senior Robert Hoadley turned in a 156 (74-82).
