The Chebiemit, Kenya, native holds a 3.80 GPA in Pre-Nursing and was named the SoCon Runner of the Year for the second-consecutive season after winning his second SoCon Cross Country Championship.
Chelimo pulled away from his competition early in the race at the Laurel Hill Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on Saturday and finished the 8K course in a time of 23:42.22. Chelimo won the race by 15 seconds over his closest competitor and 53 seconds over his closest non-UNCG competitor. He led the Spartans to a third-place team finish in the SoCon Championship.
Chelimo has won the only two SoCon Championships in UNCG cross country history. He has the three fastest times this season by any SoCon runner, including a sub-23 minute 8K time at the Greater Louisville Classic.
Other nominees included Appalachian State football's Logan Hallock, The Citadel women's soccer's Micah Wessinger, Davidson cross country's Demetrio Pagonis, and Georgia Southern volleyball's Moriah Bellissimo.
