SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Citadel first baseman/designated hitter Bo Thompson has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week and Elon right-hander Kyle Weeb has been named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for all games March 11-17. The selections are made by the league office.

Thompson hit .500, slugged .944 and turned in four multi-hit games to help the Bulldogs to a 4-1 week and a series win over Wofford in Spartanburg.

Against Akron on Wednesday, Thompson went 2-for-4 with a two RBI and a solo home run as The Citadel won 9-3. His sixth homer of the season tied the contest at 3 in the fifth inning as the Bulldogs went on to the win.

In Friday’s 5-4 loss at Wofford, Thompson was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The following day, the Mauldin, S.C., native was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run homer, as The Citadel evened the series with a 9-8 victory. Thompson helped the Bulldogs claim the rubber game 18-9 by going 3-for-6 with two hits in a 10-run first inning.

For the week, he had two doubles and two home runs for four extra-base hits. He drew two walks and struck out just twice in 21 plate appearances.

The Citadel (14-7, 4-2 SoCon) hosts No. 5 South Carolina on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before heading to Patriots Point to take on College of Charleston in a non-league contest at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Other top hitters included: Josh Zumbrook (Appalachian State), Morgan Phillips (College of Charleston), Michael Zeblo (Davidson), Antonio Alvarez (Elon), T.D. Davis (Georgia Southern), Caleb Bryson (Samford), Aaron Attaway (Western Carolina) and Demetrius Jennings (Wofford).

Elon’s Webb made a pair of appearances on the week, posting a 2.25 ERA by allowing two earned runs in eight innings, striking out 11 and walking just two.

In a 4-3 Phoenix win over Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Webb worked one inning out of the bullpen, allowing a hit and an unearned run and striking out the side in the eighth inning.

Webb earned the starting nod Saturday at UNCG, allowing two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings of work as the Phoenix topped the Spartans 6-3. He struck out eight and walked two in picking up the win.

Elon (11-8), which swept UNCG to move to 5-4 in SoCon play, hosts Princeton on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Other top pitchers included: Taylor Thurber (Appalachian State), Jake Zokan (College of Charleston), Skylar Hunter (The Citadel), Danny Mooney (Davidson), Matt McCall (Georgia Southern), C.K. Irby (Samford), Jeremy Null (Western Carolina) and Dominick Del Monte (Wofford).
