San Juan, Loy, Harford lead heading into day two

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Three-time reigning champion Furman posted an 8-over-par 296 to take the lead into day two of competition at the 2019 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Furman’s Haylee Harford, Chattanooga’s Monica San Juan and ETSU’s Hee Ying Loy tied on the day for the best individual score, shooting a 1-under-par 71. Mercer sits two strokes back of the Paladins after round one.

Harford recorded a team-high four birdies while San Juan drained birdie putts on 17 and 18. Loy shot 10 straight pars to open tournament play.

Chattanooga sits behind the Bears at 13-over-par 301, followed by ETSU at 15-over-par 303. UNCG (+20) Samford (+25) and Wofford (+29) ended day one in fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. The Citadel (+45) and Western Carolina (+53) will head into day two, eighth and ninth, respectively.

Along with a three-way tie for first, the individual leader board features a three-way tie for fifth and a four-way tie for ninth.

Mercer claimed the next spot on the individual leader board, as Mary Janiga shot an even-par 72 to hold sole possession of fourth at the end of day one. Coming in behind her is teammate Lauren Lightfrtiz, Furman’s Natalie Srinivasan and Wofford’s Kristine Torralba, in a three-way tie for fifth. All three shot a 1-over-par 73.

Samford’s Madeline Davis shot a 2-over-par 74 to hold onto sole possession of eighth. She is in front of teammate Emily Uhland, Furman’s Madison Moosa, Mercer’s Karina Kukkonen and Chattanooga’s Rheagan Hall. Uhland, Moosa, Kukkonen and Hall are in a four-way tie for ninth at a 3-over-par 75.
