Southern Conference Football Coaches Pick Appalachian State to Repeat
Southern Conference head coaches picked two-time defending national champion Appalachian State as the favorite to win the 2007 Southern Conference football title.
The Mountaineers received the maximum seven first-place votes as coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams. Coach Jerry Moore’s team posted a 14-1 record in 2006 and defeated Massachusetts, 28-17, for the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) crown.
Following the Mountaineers are Furman (8-4 in 2006), which earned a berth in the FCS playoffs in 2006, Wofford (7-4), Georgia Southern (3-8), The Citadel (5-6), Elon (5-6), Chattanooga (3-8) and Western Carolina (2-9).
