SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford sophomore Lauren Cook has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played October 27-November 3.  Cook tallied three points in a 3-1 road win at Chattanooga last week.  The win clinched a berth in the Southern Conference Women's Soccer championship for the Bulldogs.

The Conyers, Ga., native picked up an assist on Cindy Spikers' goal which gave Samford a 1-0 lead against the Mocs in the 23rd minute.  With Samford up 2-1 late in the first half, Cook picked up a goal of her own to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead which they would not relinquish.  It was Cook's first goal of the season and just her second assist of the 2009 campaign.

Cook has appeared in 13 games for the Bulldogs the season and has earned five starts.  She has collected four points on the season with three of them coming in last week's game.

Samford (12-1-4, 7-1-3 SoCon) earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.  The Bulldogs will face College of Charleston Friday at 5:00 p.m. The tournament will be held at UNC Greensboro's Soccer Stadium.

Other top performers this week were College of Charleston's Katie Tate, Davidson's Kyri Bye-Nagel, Georgia Southern's Sara Oland and UNC Greensboro's Tabitha Padgett.
