UPDATE: The three Southern Conference Internship positions for the 2010-11 academic year have been filled. Thank you for your interest.
The Southern Conference, an NCAA Division I Athletic Conference in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will offer three paid internships for the upcoming academic year, from July, 2010 through June, 2011. Candidates must have the ability to work within the framework of Southern Conference and NCAA regulations. The individuals chosen will have duties as assigned by the Commissioner, their direct supervisor and the internship coordinator. These internships, however, will offer a comprehensive experience in all areas of conference administration.
The first Southern Conference internship for 2010-11 will be concentrated in the area of Media Relations and could include opportunities for the following duties:
- Media Relations: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations with compiling and managing league statistics for selected sports, producing press releases, completing NCAA reporting forms and updating the conference website.
The second Southern Conference internship for 2010-11 will be in the areas of Championships and external operations and could include opportunities to gain experience in the following areas:
- Championships: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Assistant Commissioner for Championships with the administration of 18 Conference championship events;
- Marketing, Rules Compliance, Multimedia Services, Internal Operations: Assigned tasks could include assisting staff members in general or specific projects relating to these departments.
The third Southern Conference internship for 2010-11 will be concentrated in the area of Multimedia Services and could include opportunities to gain experience in the following areas:
- Multimedia Services: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Director of Multimedia Services with website management and design, videostreaming of SoCon championships and other events, conversion of videotape archives for both on-demand video and DVDs for sale, expansion of efforts with social media technology, and assistance with production of televised SoCon events.
- Marketing, Rules Compliance, Media Relations, Internal Operations: Assigned tasks could include assisting staff members in general or specific projects relating to these departments.
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree (advanced degree candidate preferred), have experience in media relations, championships administration, multimedia services, and/or general athletics department operations and must have strong communication, organizational, and computer skills. Applicants must have the initiative and self motivation to complete tasks as assigned, working independently to meet conference deadlines.
