Charleston, S.C. – Former College of Charleston baseball player, Michael Kohn (Camden, S.C.) was called up to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and pitched in Monday’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Angel Stadium.

"Michael Kohn is a guy who has a power arm and we feel can help our bullpen," said Angels Manager Mike Scioscia.  "He's a youngster but he has great makeup and a great arm and hopefully he'll carve out a role."

Kohn, drafted by the Angels in the 13th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, had a 1.95 earned-run average and 32 strikeouts in 26 games for triple-A Salt Lake this season.

Kohn spent most of his collegiate career as a fielder, posting a .311 batting average with 93 RBI, 75 runs and 19 home runs in 315 at bats. He pitched part of his senior season and in 13 innings, had 16 strikeouts and only gave up three earned runs for a 2.08 ERA.

Kohn is the second Cougar this season to be called up.  Brian Schlitter (Oak Park, Ill.) joined the Chicago Cubs’ roster the end of June.  Former Cougar Brett Gardner (Holly Hill, S.C.) currently starts for the New York Yankees and is batting a .295 with 34 RBI and 27 stolen bases.  Schlitter is 0-1 in four appearances and has four strikeouts.

Kohn is the fourth Cougar called up overall behind Schlitter, Gardner and Jason Gilfillan, who pitched for the Kansas City Royals in 2003.  Gilfillan was 2-0 in 13 appearances for the Royals out of the Bullpen.

Kohn pitched 0.1 innings in his debut for the Angels.  He gave up two hits and had one walk against the Red Sox July 26^th.
