SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Jeremy Buncum has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for October 26, the league office announced today.
Buncum led The Citadel defense as the Bulldogs held Western Carolina to just 236 total yards on Saturday, the lowest in any SoCon game this season. The senior linebacker stripped Western Carolina’s Michael Johnson of the ball on a fourth down in the fourth quarter and recovered the fumble, which would lead to a Bulldog touchdown. It was the second consecutive game Buncum recovered a fumble.
The Charleston, S.C. native had seven total tackles (six solo) and a half tackle that resulted in a loss of four yards. He was also in on a sack on Catamounts quarterback Zac Brindise. The Citadel defense did not allow any points until less than two minutes left in the game en route to a 35-7 win last week.
Buncum maintains a 3.6 GPA in Business Administration.
Other nominees included Appalachian State football player Tony Washington, Georgia Southern volleyball player Moriah Bellissimo, and Wofford volleyball player Reagan Styles.
