Phil Perry enters his fifth year as assistant director of media relations for the Southern Conference in 2016-17. Perry is the SoCon's media relations contact for men's and women's soccer, wrestling, baseball and men's and women's golf and oversees the league's website, publications and academic awards.
Perry came to the Southern Conference after serving nearly four years at SoCon member UNCG. There, he was the primary media relations contact for women's soccer, women's basketball, softball and men's and women's tennis. Perry was the Spartans' interim media relations director for the final three months of his tenure, picking up media relations oversight for men's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball during that time.
Prior to his tenure at UNCG, Perry was a copy editor at The Herald in Rock Hill, S.C., for a year and a half. Before that, Perry was an assistant media relations director at Indiana University for the 2006-07 school year after completing a one-year media relations internship at the Atlantic Coast Conference in Greensboro, N.C. Perry began his career as an assistant director of media relations at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., from 2002-05.
Perry, a Conway, South Carolina, native, earned a degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina in 2002.
