SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Andrea Fisher, junior outside hitter on the Furman team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 9, the league office announced Wednesday.
Fisher, a native of Burlington, Ontario, is a business major and boasts a 4.0 GPA. She was also named SoCon Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week this week after leading Furman to a 2-0 record last week.
The junior averaged 4.10 kills per set in two matches last week, notching 41 kills in 120 swings. She reached 20 kills in each of the two wins, setting a new career high with 21 kills against Georgia Southern on Friday. Fisher has led Furman to wins in eight of its last 10 matches and a perfect 4-0 record in conference play.
Also nominated for student-athlete of the week were Appalachian State women’s soccer player Samantha Childress, Davidson men’s cross country runner Sal del Giudice, UNCG women’s soccer player Chesney White, Samford football player Andy Summerlin and Western Carolina women’s soccer player Kelly Parnell.
