SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Andrea Fisher and ETSU’s Katie Muey have been named Southern Conference Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, while Western Carolina’s Jo-Leigh Vervelde earned Freshman honors for games of November 4-8. The selections are made by the conference office.
Offensive Player of the Week: Andrea Fisher, Furman, Senior, Outside Hitter, Burlington, Ontario, Canada
Andrea Fisher totaled 35 kills and a .483 hitting percentage to lead Furman to a pair of conference wins last week. The senior averaged a whopping 5.83 kills per set, putting down 17 kills against The Citadel on Friday and 18 kills versus Mercer on Saturday. She also added 10 digs on Friday night to record her third double-double of the season. Fisher has totaled over 1,000 kills for her career and leads the SoCon with 4.02 kills per set in conference games this season. The native of Burlington, Ontario, earns the weekly honor for the second time this season.

Defensive Player of the Week: Katie Muey, ETSU, Senior, Libero, Alexandria, Ind.
Katie Muey surpassed herself this week, recording 87 digs for an astounding 6.69 digs per set to lead ETSU to three conference wins. The senior libero started the week with 33 digs against Western Carolina on Tuesday. She followed by tallying 26 in a four-set win over Wofford on Friday and 28 in a four-set win over Samford on Saturday. Muey leads the SoCon with 5.35 digs per set overall and 5.67 digs per set in conference games. The SoCon newcomer takes home the weekly honor for the second straight week and fourth time this season.

Freshman of the Week: Jo-Leigh Vervelde, Western Carolina, Setter, Oostburg, Wis.
Jo-Leigh Vervelde put together another strong week, averaging 6.23 assists per set in the two-setter system and adding 40 digs and 16 kills over the three matches. The rookie setter opened the week with 30 assists, 21 digs, four kills, one block and a service ace in a five-setter against ETSU on Tuesday. She continued with 30 assists, 16 digs, seven kills and two blocks on Friday as the Catamounts rallied from down 2-0 to top Samford in five sets. In her final match of the week, Vervelde totaled 21 assists, five kills, four blocks and three digs against Wofford. The native of Oostburg, Wis. receives the weekly honor for the second straight week.
