SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Ryan Adams and Western Carolina’s Kevin Hires have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, while Furman’s Gabrielle Jennings and Western Carolina’s Tiffani Lewis claimed honors on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday. Selections are made by a group of the league’s track and field coaches and included competition held April 5-11.

Adams, a sophomore, won the 800-meter dash on Saturday at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama, with a time of 1:50.82. Adams’ time at the Tiger Track Classic is a personal best in outdoor competition and is just 0.05 seconds shy of his personal-best time in indoor competition. The Hudson, Ohio, native currently ranks second on the SoCon performance list this season with his time of 1:50.82.

Hires achieved personal records in both the triple jump and long jump at the Tiger Track Classic. The senior earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 49’-0.75” (14.95m). His mark in the triple jump is currently the best in the SoCon so far this season. In the long jump, Hires took seventh place after touching down at 22’-6.25” (6.86m), which ranks third in the SoCon this outdoor season.

Jennings set a Paladin record in the women’s 1,500-meter run in route to winning the event at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama, on Saturday. The freshman posted a time of 4:21.68, breaking the previous Furman record of 4:25.32, which was set by Jacquelyn Crow in 2015. Jennings’ time of 4:21.68 is the top time in the SoCon in the 1,500-meter run and also ranks 20th NCAA East Regional.

Lewis set top SoCon marks in both the triple jump and long jump events at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Alabama, on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
