SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Ben Hale has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 23-29 after leading the Paladins to two wins in the final week of conference play.
The redshirt freshman from Frisco, Texas, totaled five saves on the week including four in a 2-0 victory over Wofford. Hale recorded a big save in a 2-1 overtime victory over UNCG on Sunday to finish the week with a 0.49 goals against average. This marks the second time this season that Hale has earned SoCon Player of the Week honors (Sept. 5).
Furman finished the regular season 11-4-3 overall with a record of 5-2-3 in the Southern Conference. The Paladins, who grabbed the No. 3 seed in the upcoming SoCon Championship, will host No. 6 seed VMI at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
