SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer senior Ria’n Holland was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Nov. 10-13 after averaging 23.5 points per game over the first weekend of the season. The award is selected by the league office.
Holland opened his season with 31 points in an 88-79 loss at UCF on Friday, finishing one point shy of his career high. The guard from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was 7-for-15 from the floor (46.7 percent), including a 6-for-11 effort from 3-point range (54.5 percent). Holland went 11-for-11 from the free-throw line and pulled down three rebounds.
Two days later, Holland scored 16 points in just 18 minutes of action in a 110-43 win over Toccoa Falls. He shot 60 percent from the floor (6-for-10) and 66.7 percent from 3-point range (4-for-6). He pulled down two rebounds.
For the week, Holland averaged 23.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He shot a collective 52 percent from the floor (13-for-25) and 58.8 percent from 3-point range (10-for-17) in addition to his perfect mark at the free-throw line.
