KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four Southern Conference men’s soccer student-athletes were among the 22 honored on the United Soccer Coaches’ Scholar All-South Region teams, the organization announced Wednesday.

Furman midfielder Laurence Wyke and Mercer defender Conner Antley earned spots on the first team, while Furman defender           Kevin Edelmann and Mercer goalkeeper Jeremy Booth were second-team selections.

Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-Region recognition at the NCAA Division I level must own a 3.30 grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all games with significant contribution and be a junior or above in academic standing.

Wyke, who garnered USC All-South Region honors earlier in the month, tallied nine goals and added four assists this past season en route to earning Southern Conference Player of the Year honors and first-team All-SoCon accolades. The midfielder, who joined the Paladin program after spending his first two seasons at Trinity University, paced the Paladins with 22 total points while helping lead Furman to a 12-5-3 record as a junior. A native of Bolton, England, he sports a 3.42 GPA in business administration.

Antley joins the ranks of the Scholar All-South Region Squad for the first time in his career. Antley finished the season with four goals and 11 points, which ranked second on the Bears. The redshirt senior defender also added three assists to his season total. Antley adds this accomplishment to go along with 2017 All-SoCon Tournament Team, 2017 All-SoCon first-team and 2017 USC All-South Region third-team honors.

Edelmann, a native of Koblenz, Germany, helped Furman post nine shutouts and limit opponents to just 19 goals in 20 matches this season, joining Wyke in earning first-team All-Southern Conference honors. A senior business administration major with a 3.30 GPA, Edelmann netted three goals for the Paladins in 2017.

Booth, a redshirt senior and industrial engineering major, guided the Bears to their second consecutive SoCon tournament title. This is the second consecutive season that Booth has been named a Scholar All-South Region honoree. Booth adds the academic honor to go along with 2017 Southern Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, 2017 All-SoCon Tournament Team and 2017 All-SoCon second team.
