SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Tianna Tarter has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for games played Jan. 23-29, the conference announced Tuesday. The weekly award is the second of the season for Tarter.
In two games last week, Tarter poured in 54 points while shooting 62 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.
Tarter started the week with 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal against league-leading Mercer. The senior finished the night 8-for-12 from the field and played all 40 minutes as ETSU dropped its first conference game of the season.
On Saturday against Samford, the Johnson City, Tennessee, native dropped a game-high 33 points and grabbed nine boards as ETSU defeated Samford 76-48. Tarter finished 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point land in the win and tallied four steals. With the five steals total last week, Tarter now ranks fourth in ETSU program history with 229 steals in her career.
Tarter finished the week shooting 80 percent from the charity stripe and recorded her 19th and 20th double-digit scoring performances in the two contests. The 5-6 guard ranks third in scoring in the SoCon with an average of 17.3 points per game and ranks among the top 5 in assists, free-throw percentage, steals, assist/turnover ratio and minutes played.
