SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its first-ever women’s lacrosse players of the week for all competition held Feb.10-12, the inaugural week of the sport in the SoCon. Wofford’s Hannah Mutch was tabbed the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week while Detroit Mercy’s Lauren Webley was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week.
Mutch, a freshman attacker from Cornelius, North Carolina, scored three goals in the first-ever Wofford women’s lacrosse game on Saturday. Mutch also had three assists in the game as the Terriers fell to Gardner-Webb 21-11. Six of Mutch’s seven shots were on frame and the freshman picked up one ground ball and forced one turnover in the contest.
Webley, a senior defender from Whitby, Ontario, led the Titans with three caused turnovers in their loss to No. 11 Northwestern on Saturday. Webley picked up four ground balls and helped Detroit Mercy force 16 turnovers in the game. Webley, who was named preseason All-SoCon, was second for Detroit Mercy with 46 ground balls last year.
Wofford returns to the field on Feb. 24, hosting Presbyterian College, while Detroit Mercy travels to Ohio State on Friday.
