SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Samantha Caswell has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 27 to Mar. 5, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native finished the week 2-0 at the No. 1 singles spot as she earned two SoCon victories. The first win came on Mar. 3 against ETSU as Caswell defeated Ioanna Markesini 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (7-2). The win helped the Mocs defeat ETSU 4-3 and snap a four-game slide against the Bucs. The following day, the senior defeated Wofford’s Cassidy Hicks 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) as the Mocs topped Wofford 5-2, pushing their record to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
In doubles action, Caswell, along with Emma Van Hee went 1-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo’s win came against ETSU as they downed Alory Pereira and Markesini, 6-2. Caswell and Van Hee then fell 4-6 against Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman of Wofford.
Chattanooga returns to the court on Mar. 11 when they travel to Alabama A&M for a 1 p.m. match.
