INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA announced the brackets for the 2018 NCAA Championships on Wednesday. The SoCon will feature seven schools and 14 representatives at the 2018 NCAA Championships with two wrestlers earning spots at 165, 184 and 197 pounds.
Chattanooga's Alonzo Allen will take on Sergio Mendez at 125 pounds. John Muldoon of SIUE represents the SoCon 133 pounds, facing Drexel's Austin DeDanto. Appalachian State's Irvin Enriquez will face Navy's Nicholis Gill who is the No. 14 seed at 141 pounds. Tyshawn Williams, who won the SoCon title at 149 pounds, faces UNC's Troy Heilmann. Gardner-Webb's Tyler Marinelli will wrestle Old Dominon's Larry early, representing the SoCo at 157 pounds.
The SoCon has two wrestlers at 165 in Nate Higgins (SIUE) and Quentin Perez (Campbell). Higgins faces Michigan's Logan Messa while Perez will take on Rutgers' Richie Lewis. Perez, who ended the season 25-8, was awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
Appalachian State's Forrest Przybysz, the SoCon title winner at 174 pounds, will face Wisconsin's Ryan Christensen in the opening round on Thursday. Bryce Carr (Chattanooga) and Alan Clothier (Appalachian State) represent the SoCon at 184 pounds. Carr will take on Lock Haven's Corey Hazel with Clothier facing Minnesota's Brandon Krone.
Randall Diabe of Appalachian State, courtesy of an at-large bid, will face Kent State's Kyle Conel. The Citadel's Sawyer Root, who claimed an NCAA allocation, will face Penn State's Shakur Rasheed. Chattanooga's Scottie Boykin, the SoCon champion at 197, received a No. 10 seed, the highest overall seed for any SoCon wrestler. Boykin will take on Lehigh's Chris Weiler on Thursday. SoCon heavyweight champion Jere Heino of Campbell will square off with Matt Stencel of Central Michigan.
