SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Jake Munns has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 6-12, the conference announced Tuesday. The Paladins went 2-1 last week as a team, defeating Rollins and Valparaiso.
Munns went 2-1 at the No. 2 singles spot last week with his lone loss coming to Stetson’s Loic Blanco 4-6, 5-7. Munns then rebounded with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rollins’ Sami Kirberg and capped off his singles play with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Valparaiso’s Kweisi Kenvatte.
In doubles action, the, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, native went 2-0 at the No. 2 doubles spot. Munns and Cameron Green defeated Stetson’s Colter DeCoste and Coilin MacNamara 6-3 on March 3. The duo then defeated Rollins’ Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo Nicolas 6-2.
Furman is back in action on March 14 as it welcomes in-state foe USC Upstate. The Paladins are at home for the next four matches, including SoCon tilts against ETSU and Chattanooga.
