SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer junior Stanton Schorr has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 7-13. The selection is made by the league office.
Schorr tied for third at the USF Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, finishing with a 3-over-par 219. Schorr opened with rounds of 74 and 76 on Monday to sit in a tie for eighth at 6-over after battling rainy conditions in the first round and 20 mph wind gusts in the afternoon. Schorr responded with a 3-under 69 – tied for the low round of the day – on Tuesday to vault five spots into third. The Columbus, Georgia, native finished two strokes back of 50th-ranked Claudio Correa of No. 21 South Florida and five strokes ahead of the Bulls’ 42nd-ranked Christian Chapman on his home course.
Schorr helped the Bears to a tie for fourth in the 11-team field.
Mercer returns to action March 18-20 when it co-hosts the Linger Longer Invitational at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia.
Also nominated: Shiso Go (ETSU), Lake Johnson (Chattanooga), Dylan MacQueen (Western Carolina) and Ryan Marter (Wofford).
