WEST POINT, Miss. – The Chattanooga Mocs ended up 10th at the Old Waverly Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State. The Mocs finished with 296 Tuesday over the final 18 holes, battling windy conditions throughout the event.
That gave the squad a 909 total, which was one behind Memphis in ninth. It was five better than Louisiana in 11th and nine clear of McNeese State in 12th.
Lake Johnson’s 72 was the low tally for UTC’s quintet. Etienne Brault chipped in 73 followed by Andrew Weathers with 75 and Will Porter at 76. Luke Long had the drop score with 79.
Johnson’s level-par 72 is his 13th card of par or better in 2017-18. That matches Long for the team lead.
No. 10 LSU claimed the win, pulling away from No. South Florida. The Tigers ended up at 855, 13 ahead of the Bulls. Ole Miss’ Braden Thornberry was the medalist, shooting 12-under 204.
For the fourth time this season, the Mocs’ best round was the final 18. The 11-stroke improvement from round two to three is the fifth time this year the squad has made a jump of 10 shots or better from the previous 18.
Chattanooga begins postseason play next week at the Southern Conference Championship. Play begins Sunday, April 22, and ends 54 holes later on Tuesday. The event returns to Pinehurst No. 9 in Pinehurst, N.C.
