GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman’s Scott Purvis has qualified for the 118th United States Amateur Championship, to be held Aug. 13-19 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California.

Purvis, who recently competed his sophomore season on the Paladin team, shot a second-round 69 and was the runner-up with a 1-under two-round total of 141 at the Oklahoma Golf Association qualifier earlier this week to qualify for the event.

A native of Mason, Ohio, Cole competed in 10 of the Paladins’ 11 tournaments as a sophomore during the 2017-18 season and posted a 75.1 stroke average over 30 rounds. He recorded top-20 finishes in two tournaments, tying for 16th at both the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate and the Furman Intercollegiate. Last season, Purvis fired a career-best 68 in the opening round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.

More than 300 golfers will open play at the U.S. Amateur with 36 holes of stroke play Aug. 13-14. The top 64 players following the second day of stroke play will advance to match play. The first three rounds of match play will be televised by FS1 with the final two rounds being televised by Fox.
