MACON, Ga. – Add another postseason honor for Mercer Men’s Soccer star freshman Trevor Martineau, this time named to the TopDrawerSoccer Freshmen Best XI Second Team. Martineau is the lone Southern Conference representative to be honored by TopDrawerSoccer.
The Texas native was recently named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Second Team, marking the fifth consecutive season that a Mercer Bear was named to a regional squad and sixth out of the last seven campaigns. The Texas native was also the first Mercer freshman to garner the award from the United Soccer Coaches since former Mercer great Will Bagrou was named to the All-Region Second Team in 2014.
The freshman forward led the SoCon in points (25), goals (9), game-winning goals (5) and finished third in assists with seven. Martineau was tabbed as the SoCon Freshman of the Year, SoCon Player of the Year and was named to both the All-SoCon First Team and All-SoCon Freshman Team. Martineau became just the second freshman in league history to win player of the year, joining Thompson Usiyan of Appalachian State (1977). Martineau was also labeled as the SoCon Player of the Month (Oct.) and became the first freshman in SoCon history to capture three conference player of the week honors.
