SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jake Huffine has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Dec. 19-25.
The junior went 2-0 on the week in the 133 pound weight class by way of defeating Edinboro’s Richie Gomez by a pin at the 2:07 mark and defeating Ohio’s Trevor Giallombardo by a 13-1 major decision. Huffine’s victory over Gomez on Tuesday, gave the Mocs a 17-15 lead and on Thursday, his victory over Giallombardo gave them a 16-13 lead after trailing 13-6.
Huffine’s two wins on the week put him at 13-4 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in duals. He was also named the SoCon Wrestler of the Week earlier on Wednesday.
The Cartersville, Georgia, native currently holds a 4.0 grade point average in accounting.
The Mocs will return to the mat on Jan. 1-2 as they are set to host the Southern Scuffle.
